Webinar - COP26 for Employers - Capital Law

When - 9th November 2021 - 8.30am Where - Online

“COP” stands for the “conference of the parties” and is a mechanism for the UN to bring states together to negotiate climate change. At the last COP in Paris in 2015, leaders made a global commitment to keep well below 2 degrees of global warming.

The UK has made a separate commitment to achieve net zero by 2050. There are huge opportunities in terms of the new technology required to reach this goal and for the UK to establish itself as a world leader. Although, we are currently the fastest decarbonising economy in the world.

Several big businesses have committed to ensuring that we keep below 1.5 degrees of global warming. SMEs play a vital role, as they account for 50% of emissions in the UK.

There are clear financial and ethical incentives for becoming a sustainable business. But there is also a significant opportunity for employee engagement with a demographic that is increasingly concerned with protecting the planet. By making the commitment to become more sustainable, businesses and young workforces share agendas, improving recruitment and retention.

In this session, Kate Evans from our construction, energy and projects team and Rebecca Mahon from our employment team will look at what businesses across the UK are doing to achieve their own net zero targets, how businesses can retrofit energy efficient solutions, how to document your commitment to efficiency and what this means for your workforce.
